Open Bees opens up conversation on learning disabilities in Medina

By Sean McDonnell, cleveland.com

MEDINA, Ohio — In an effort to support parents who have children with learning disabilities, local mother Christy Mattey has started Open Bees, a group for parents who have questions and want to learn more about the challenges their children face.

Since the group’s first meeting in September, Open Bees has already added more than 110 members, reaching the 100-member milestone within its first six months.

“Slowly but surely the word is spreading,” Mattey said. “Not just through Medina, but other areas as well.

“There’s just such a need for it,” she said. “The last meeting, there were parents from Lakewood, Twinsburg, and the people are coming from all over because there are so few support groups that are even present, much less as active as the Medina one is.”
